Bill Cosby's Shocking Remarks - 06/05/2004 9:25 AM
In late May 2004, Bill Cosby gave a speech at a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Brown Vs. Board of Education. In his speech he said some things that have upset a lot of people. What terrible things could this respected and intelligent man have said? His experience as an entertainer and speaker is significant, so what shocking and offensive things could he have summoned from the depths of his inner being? What lies or wildly controversial utterances could call into question such a man?

Bill Cosby has touched a topic that few people have a tolerance for…personal accountability. Few people can handle this message because they’re too busy looking to blame others for their circumstances.

If we are to ever move beyond racism we need to stop focusing on race. Bill Cosby spelled it out as it is, and this has offended the delicate sensitivities of those who are offended by the very notion of personal accountability. There comes a time when you rise above circumstances laid upon you and do something to improve them. Why is it today that when black people do this they seemed to be shunned by other blacks? What Bill Cosby said was long overdue and although he has a delicate line to walk between honesty and capitulation, I commend his courage and his message.

Click here to listen to excerpts from his speech I doubt intelligent, thinking people will be shocked, I suspect you’ll want to send him thanks – regardless of your race.
